In 1989 Porsche introduced a redesigned 911, internally known as the 964. It was initially introduced as the all-wheel drive Carrera 4 with the rear-wheel drive Carrera 2 being introduced later.


The air-cooled 911 is powered by a 3.6-liter flat-six that produces
250 horsepower. The performance of the 964 was great in its day. The
standard manual car managed a 0-60 mph time of just 5.5 seconds.


Of the air-cooled 911 era the 964s provide some of the best handling
and over all performance. The great handling is largely due to the

For purists the Carrera 2 is the better of the standard cars because

964 America RS. It commands a premium, but is well worth it.

that preceded it and the 993 that followed. The bumper was no longer an
impact bumper, but instead matched the body. However, the lines retained
the classic look and the electronic spoiler that would open at 50 mph
and go back down at 6 mph kept those lines pure. The styling was
somewhat controversial when it was first unveiled, but its looks have
